Steps

  1. File a search request with the National Police — this starts the official procedures.
  2. Contact the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War: consultations, search, information exchange.
  3. Check that your relative is in the Unified Register of persons missing under special circumstances; you can request an extract online.
  4. Provide DNA samples for identification if officially asked.
  5. Look after yourself: uncertainty is exhausting. Support groups exist for families of prisoners and the missing.
